How to find the right sized nursing bra questions and answers...
Can you help me pick the right sized nursing bra?
We tend to find that it is
much, much easier to get the right sized bra if you pick one of our
"flexible sized nursing bras". These nursing bras are designed to cover several sizes and have some big advantages.
(YOU CAN ACCESS FLEXIBLE NURSING BRAS BY CLICKING ON THIS LINK).Namely:
a) Rather than you having to pick, for example, 34e, you might choose for example, a Medium. The Medium bra may cover several sizes. This means it is much easier to pick a size that fits right first time. We find that 95% of customers get the size right first time by picking from one of these bras.
b) In your feeding months, your size can change as your milk comes in or out. The fact that these bras cover several sizes means they are much more likely to remain comfortable.
We highly recommend, if you are not sure which size to pick, that you look at our "Flexible Sized Nursing Bras". Most our customers choose these nursing bras and they are available in sizes from
32-42 A-JJ Cups.

If you are a larger cup size we would recommend you choose either the
Royce Blossom nursing bra or the
Bravado Seamless Nursing Bra in XXL.
When would I need to buy a nursing bra?
Anytime when you start to feel some discomfort you’re your normal bra. So, this may be relatively early on in your pregnancy or later, when you are preparing to breastfeed.
How should I measure myself?
To get a good fit, measure yourself in the following ways:
- Firstly, measure around your body just under your arms with a measuring tape. Try to keep the tape measure snug, but not too tight. If the measurement happens to be an uneven number, round it up to the next even number. This measurement is your band size.
- The next step is to measure around your bust. Do this whilst wearing a well fitting, unpadded bra. For every 1" difference between your band size and this measurement will represent one cup size. For example, if your band size is 36" and the measurement of the fullest part of your bust is 38", then you should wear a 36B bra. You should ensure that there is no breast tissue beyond the side seam or "spilling" out of the top of your cups.
What happens to my sizing after delivery?
Most women will find that their upper body will slim down after they have given birth, so you should make sure that you have the ability to tighten the band of the bra in the future. So, if you are buying a bra in the last weeks of pregnancy, you should choose a bra that you can wear on the last set of hooks, or one which is stretchy around your rib cage. You should make sure that your bra is snug at this stage, but it should not ride up your back. If your milk has not yet come in (this typically happens 3-5 days after you have given birth), try to allow some extra room in the cups for this to happen, or have hooks that accommodate your changing breast size. If you find that once your milk has come in, you need a larger size, you may be able to switch back to the smaller size after your milk supply is regulated (this is usually about 3 months after giving birth).
How can I tell if your bras are true to size?
Not sure how accurate the sizing of our bras is? Are you a member of any online mums groups? Or are you part of any Facebook breastfeeding groups? If so, then we
STRONGLY URGE you to ask that group what they thought of the Nursing Bra Shop and its service and sizing. Don't take our word for it....please ask the group and we think it is likely some of our old customers will speak for us.
